Excel crashes constantly

First anyone reading this should know that I have been using Excel (and other Office products) since inception many years ago. I have installed the product many times on many computers over the years. I am long-time pc user (since they came out). I have never had a problem with Excel or the other Office products.

Since I have installed Office 2010 which of course includes Excel, I have had nothing but problems with Excel crashing. Almost every time I work on a sheet it will crash somewhere along the way. It causes me interminable problems with lost work. I don't have time for this.

I am using an HP laptop which is no more than a year old. I run Windows 7, and my laptop is 64 bit. I have reloaded the program many times without resolving the problem. I have no other observable problems with installed programs. I have installed all updates fromm Microsoft.

Right now I am thinking of installing Office 2003 because this program's performance is unacceptable.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you.

Try to disable adobe from task manager. Does that help?

Go to options language settings and make sure English is selected and go through all the options. Dies that work?

Is ther some sort of action that kills excel that yi can duplicate?

Thanks so much for your quick response. Tha is very neighborly.

The crashes seem to happen without a clear provocation. I did notice that it occured when I was pasting data from one part of the sheet to another, a fairy ordinary operation that I have done thousands of times. But I will have to be more careful to note when the crash occurs. The problem is that it should not happen. Excel and other Office products have worked flawlessly for me in the past. I am a big user of Excel, Access, and Word.

English is the default and selected language.

I use Adobe constantly to store various documents in pdf format. Disabling Adobe would put me back in the 'stone tablet' age. Although I appreciate the suggestion as a way to resolve the problem. Are you suggesting this only to test a possible conflict which would then indicate a permanent solution?

Perhaps there is some Registry corruption that interferes with Excel on my pc. I do not use any of the Registry cleaning programs because I am afraid they will cause problems where none exist.

Thanks again for your response.

I'm notbsuggesting to remove adobe but disable it in the task manager. If that is the culprit, we can go from there.

I did not mean to misapply your directions, only to emphasize the importance of Adobe to me. Sorry for my poor choice of words.

I opened Task Manager. In Services, I looked for a all Adobe references. There was only one reference to Adobe, "Adobe Active File Monitor V8" which is related to Adobe Elements. I stopped it.

I returned to Excel and did the following:
Opened an existing sheet.
Copied some of the cells.
Opened a blank sheet.
Pasted the cells.
Deleted some of the rows that were pasted.
Changed two numbers.
One of the columns was in date format. I began to change the entries in the column to text.
The program crashed.

That is one incident.

Second incident.
Opened an existing sheet.
Entered several numbers in empty cells.
Entered next number.
The program crashed.

What do you think?

I am very disappointed with Office 2010 including Excel. It was entirely unnecessary to change the menus. Now with crashes of a product that was always reliable, I may abandon them.

This problem I have with Excel seems to be related to my computer's configuration, perhaps something buried in the Registry. I reason this because I see no other comments on the matter, and none of the Microsoft upates have changed the situation. I have deleted and reloaded the program several times with no improvement. Thanks to those who have offered solutions. I appreciate your time and willingness to assist.

I am having the same problem. I was not sure if it was window 64 bit or the new office 2010. Are you running 7 32 or 64? I was using 2007 with no problmes on a 32 bit machine.
