I have a spreadsheet in Excel 2010 that has a hyperlink on each row to a read only word document or a pdf.
The PDF hyperlinks open without a problem.
However when I click on one of the links to a read only word document, it seems to hang. I have since discovered that this is because the message that tells you that the document is read only, do you want to open it as read only, is getting stuck and I have to use alt and tab to find it.
This happens each time I open one of these documents and is really irritating!! Is there any way that i can stop these messages from getting stuck behind another window?

Have you found an answer to this problem - I am seeing the same issue with a Password Prompt message when opening a hyperlink Word document from Excel.

Just so I'm clear. When you're in word and you click a hyperlink to an excel doc which is password protected the password dialogue box is hidden behind a window making itba pain in the arse to find and enter?

Sort of! The excel doc is not password protected, it just suggests that you open it as read only, and it is this message that gets hidden.

In my case it is a new Windows 7 64-bit PC. We have hyperlinks to Word documents within an Excel Spreadsheet. The Excel window is maximized. When clicking on the Word hyperlink, the blue spinner just keeps spinning and you cannot minimize the Excel window to get to the password prompt for the Word doc because Excel is busy.
If your Excel window size is reduced such that you can see part of the password prompt for the Word doc, then you can expose the password window, enter the password and move right along. Unfortunately, my user is used to having the Excel window maximized, and she would prefer that all things remain the same.....

I am not sure if it is helpful for you to know that the Excel spreadsheet and all the hyperlink Word docs within it, were originally created with either Word 2000 or 2003.
