There are a few different ways you can do this.

1. Embed video into Powerpoint
2. Link it via a hyperlink

While you can play AVI through powerpoint there is no doubt that converting it to WMA would provide more stability. Here is a link to a free download that can convert your AVI video to WMA format.

Hyperlinking to Powerpoint

1. Save your media file to the same folder as your powerpoint presentation.
2. In powerpoint, highlight a word or phrase on the page you want the video to appear
3. Right click on the highlighted word and choose hyperlink.
4. When you're in view mode and click on the link it will play the video in your player.

To embedd the video

1. Save the media file to the folder where you have your powerpoint.
2. Select Slide Layout
3. Click on insert media clip
4. An option for media playback should appear i.e. play video immediately or when clicked

You can also embed an actual media player into Powerpoint using the developer ribbon options. If this is something you need to know let us know and we can either post here or make a quick video for you.

Now,I convert my avi to wmv using Pavtube Video Converter. I am very satisfied with this product.
I set my video as a .wmv at 640 x 480 size,it works well.
If someone has the similar problem with me,try it.
